London Critics Film Circle nominations:
Film of the Year "Blue is the Warmest Color" "Blue Jasmine" "Frances Ha" "Gravity" "Her" "The Great Beauty" "Inside Llewyn Davis" "Nebraska" "12 Years a Slave" "The Wolf of Wall Street"
Director of the Year Alfonso Cuaròn, "Gravity" Paul Greengrass, "Captain Phillips" Steve McQueen, "12 Years a Slave" Martin Scorsese, "The Wolf of Wall Street" Paolo Sorrentino, "The Great Beauty"
Actor of the Year Bruce Dern, "Nebraska" Leonardo DiCaprio, "The Wolf of Wall Street" Michael Douglas, "Behind the Candelabra" Chiwetel Ejiofor, "12 Years a Slave" Tom Hanks, "Captain Phillips"
Screenwriter of the Year Spike Jonze, "Her" Joel and Ethan Coen, "Inside Llewyn Davis" Steve Coogan and Jeff Pope, "Philomena" John Ridley, "12 Years a Slave" Terence Winter, "The Wolf of Wall Street"
The London film critics are the second most important award in Britain and is a good indicator of what's getting nominated at the BAFTA's. In other words this is really positive for Marty's and Leo's chances at the BAFTA's.

I was about to give up on Leo's chances after the Critics Choice nominations. But with the British critics being so big on WOWWS, both with the critics award and their reviews generally, I found new hope for a very good showing at the BAFTAs. That includes Marty and Leo and they will both need that support to get in at the Oscars in an exceptionally competitive year.

It seems as more critics see WOWS more of them are nominating Leo, Marty, and the film in their lineups. Poor Jonah Hill is not getting any mentions, but atleast he can say he got to work with Martin Scorsese! Like I said I gave up hopes of Oscar nominations but I agree sikri, BAFTA will be telling on how Wolf does. I know most have given up on Leo's chances and don't think he gets nominated but it'd be so neat if he snuck in last minute. Reminds me of Joaquin Phoenix in The Master kind of. I won't get my hopes up, though.

BAFTA in combination with the guild awards like SAG, DGA, WGA and PGA is very important. If you don't get support from either, it is almost impossible to get in at the Oscars. But if BAFTA nominated you for Best Picture and the producer's guild did the same, then you are 95% assured of an Oscar-nomination. The same goes for the other categories. If you get guild support but not BAFTA, you still have a strong chance, IF every guild voter actually saw the film. And we know that only a small number of SAG voters saw WOWWS. That's why Leo still have a strong chance if he gets in at the BAFTAs. I expect Marty to get DGA nom. anyway, so he might not need it. The BAFTAs favors British films, but only slightly. They championed Django Unchained last year, even though it didn't show up at the guilds and the strong BAFTA showing translated into the Oscars.

That PGA nomination is crucial. Otherwise it would have been game over. I have looked at the previous years, and last year 8/10 PGA nominated films received an Oscar nomination. In 2012 7/10 PGA nominated film received an Oscar nominated film. The odds look good now, but nothing is certain.

So, since DGA is out of the question, the other upcoming thing to anticipate would be the BAFTAs? Or is there something else I'm missing?
