Mark Olsen @indiefocus 1h Is THE WOLF OF WALL STREET on its way to being the Kanye West of this awards season, divisively loved & hated? lat.ms/1e6uJFy Mike Ryan @mikeryan @indiefocus I've noticed that if you think it's "fine" then you "hate it." Mark Olsen @indiefocus @mikeryan So an additional battle is "love it" vs "just okay with it"? This point in the season does tend to become an all-or-nothing game. Mike Ryan @mikeryan @indiefocus Right. I think I said "I'd give it a B" after I saw it and am now in the "hated it" camp. ------ Unfortunately you are right

The LA Times is not entirely buying the "screened too late" theory.

No problem. Well I heard also apparently there was a group of SAG members who were not huge on WOWS and another group just didn't get to watch it. Meh, I have no idea how the critical reviews for this will turn out to be honest. I'm either hearing it's a masterpiece or that it sucked.

Also a question-does anyone else feel Kris Tapley has constantly been trying to throw shade against this movie? Constantly referring to how 'it feels its length' and stuff, probably disappointed it didn't get pushed back to 2014 lol. Which is weird because he did like the movie despite a few issues with it.

I can never keep track of all these bloggers. I confuse one with the other and cannot remember what each is supporting/attacking. The one I'm waiting to hear from is Anne Thompson because I think she has a good grasp of what plays well with Oscar people. She's not big on the film, apparently (rating a 70/100), and she placed it at No.9 on the new Gurus of Gold.
I agree with the scenario that says Wolf will have a similar journey to that of Django Unchained. It will enter the award season late in the game, getting only a few oscar nominations (perhaps the same: picture, script, supp. actor) but it will actually end up winning a couple of them.

Django Unchained is a good comparison. What's weird tho is Anne Thompson tweeted very nice things about WOWS and Leo and Jonah in it so I was a bit surprised she gave it a 70. She also preferred American Hustle to it.

Well the BFCA score is at 88/100 now, so it is scoring very nicely with critics and going upwards.

Oh, that's right. Maybe she has cooled on it since, or perhaps she likes it fine but doesn't think it will register with the oscar crowd.
From Jeff Wells:
That of course, doesn't explain why many critics groups weren't given the chance to see the film, starting on the same weekend when those first SAG screenings took place.
What is the estimate of how many BFCA members saw it? Do we know if they received screeners?

So now it won't be getting any Globe nominations? I mean, this is the same group the nominated Depp and Jolie for "The Accidental Tourist."

The first people they started screening for was HFPA. They have seen it and even if they haven't they will still nominate it. They wanna hang out with the stars.

The Wolf of Wall Street received two Golden Globe nominations:
Best Picture - Motion Picture Musical or Comedy Best Actor - Motion Picture Musical or Comedy: Leonardo DiCaprio
Scorsese wasn't nominated for Best Director, however. It's going to be almost impossible to win at the Oscars now.

That's weak. No screenplay or Hill, either.

No nomination for Scorsese is a disgrace.
