Before the SAG awards tomorrow the narrative have shifted towards a win for American Hustle as winner of SAG ensemble. To be honest the only category WOWWS has a chance in is Best Actor. And I am not even willing to predict Leo over McConaughey before the results of BAFTA and SAG. If they win one each Leo will have a 40% chance. But still with about 45% for McC.
But here are my predictions for the major categories before SAG:
Best Picture: 12 Years a Slave Best Director: Steve McQueen Best Actor: Matthew McConaughey Best Actress: Cate Blanchett Best Supporting Actor: Jared Leto Best Supporting Actress: Lupita Nyong'o Adapted Screenplay: John Ridley, 12YAS Original Screenplay: David O. Russell & Eric Singer
As I said the narrative of the BP winner is shifting towards Hustle, but 12 Years a Slave is the much superior film, so this is also kind of a realistic wish-list in addition to being my predictions. I think it is possible that Hustle could get only screenplay, even though Spike Jonze wrote a better screenålay for Her and should win, but Hustle's gotta win something. I'm thinking that BAFTA will give McQueen and 12YAS a big push and that will carry it through to the win. Best Actor is the only race where I'm hoping for a BAFTA upset over ejiofor that could push Leo for the Oscar.

Scorsese & DiCaprio Win Cinema Vanguard Award updated: Feb 06, 2014, 12:05 AM By The Dedicated Staff of edhat.com The Santa Barbara International Film Festival honored director Martin Scorsese and actor Leonardo DiCaprio with the Cinema Vanguard Award on Thursday evening at the Arlington Theatre. Jonah Hill was also in attendance on the red carpet and to present the award. All three men were met with screaming fans on State Street and a sold out theater. Scorsese and DiCaprio were celebrated for their film collaboration which has produced five films including Gangs of New York, The Aviator, Shutter Island, The Departed and their latest, The Wolf of Wall Street. In an introductory statement, SBIFF Executive Director Roger Durling stated, "Scorsese and DiCaprio's partnership has become a legendary cinematic pas de deux recalling other great collaborations like John Ford and John Wayne, Fellini and Mastroianni, John Huston and Bogart - and even Scorsese and De Niro." The Cinema Vanguard Award was created in recognition of those who have forged his/her own path, taking artistic risks and making a significant and unique contribution to film. Past recipients include Amy Adams, Jean Dujardin & Bérénice Bejo, Nicole Kidman, Vera Farmiga, Peter Sarsgaard, Stanley Tucci, Christoph Waltz, Kristin Scott Thomas and Ryan Gosling. The event was moderated by Todd McCarthy, a film critic for the Hollywood Reporter. Without wasting any time, McCarthy jumped right into the interview by inviting Scorsese and DiCaprio on stage and asked what inspired DiCaprio to choose his last few roles as insanely wealthy men. "I suppose I've always been fascinated with wealth in America... the corruption of wealth in America." Scorsese described that once he knows an actor has signed on for a role, he will shape the character specifically around that actor. Going over each of their films together, DiCaprio stated that he became obsessed with Howard Hughes and his character in The Aviator. "I felt a real responsibility for this movie for the first time," he said. "The main difference when playing a true life person is you get to look at these great catalogues of their life. With [fiction characters] you have to make that shit up yourself... I prefer playing characters that have some grain of truth to them," said DiCaprio. Scorsese was a fan of the Old Hollywood setting in The Aviator. "I was seduced by the possibility of creating that time," he said. The Wolf of Wall Street was in development for many years and DiCaprio couldn't see anyone directing it other than Scorsese. "We wanted to push the envelope," DiCaprio said. "There was a lot of concern from the studio... I didn't know if I had the energy to go through it again... but it couldn't have been done without [DiCaprio]," said Scorsese. The Wolf of Wall Street depicts a notorious stock swindler who squandered profits from a boiler-room "pump and dump" scheme on cocaine, prostitutes, and lavish excesses. Jonah Hill was introduced to present the Cinema Vanguard Award to Scorsese and DiCaprio. "When I was 9-years-old I saw Goodfellas, which is far too young to see that film," said Hill amidst laughter from the crowd. After seeing Goodfellas, Hill decided he wanted to dedicate his life to film, and after seeing What's Eating Gilbert Grape, he decided he wanted to dedicate his life to acting. The ceremony ended and hundreds of people began gathering their items, while groups of women in tight dresses sprinted out of the theatre towards the parking lot to get one last glimpse of Scorsese, DiCaprio, and Hill as they were escorted out.
