Thanks, Nas.
So, they're starting to edit the HBO pilot now. The Sinatra project is still on script development (I bet it stays there, too). And they're not going to have any sort of awards campaign for 50-year Argument since it's already been broadcast in the UK.

I just watched The 50 Year Argument. A few thoughts...1. The doc starts with footage from the Occupy Wall Street movement in 2011. Before even the credits roll. I found that interesting. I think it was a statement. That the mag was and continues to stand on the side of the common man. The 99%. Also they revisit the Occupy movement later in the doc. 2. There are a lot of contributors telling anecdotes stories about the mag and themselves. (Not all of them were interesting) 3. There`s the story of the creation of the mag. There`s footage from the 50th anniversary event. There`s also random office footage. 4. There`s footage from an EPIC word battle between Vidal and Mailer on TV about a NYRB essay from Vidal where he compared Mailer to Charles Manson... Easily the most fun moment of the doc. 5. There`s tons of footage from historical events and how the mag covered those events. (The feminist movement, Vietnam war, Prague Spring, Yugoslavia``s civil war, Bush/War/Torture, the Egyptian revolution...) They are trying to make the argument that the mag was always on the right side of history. 6.There`s a small tribute to James Baldwin. 7. The doc is really episodic. It goes from one thing to another without any real continuity. From a historic event, to a contributors anecdote story, to some office footage and so on... I found that to be fragmented, distractive and problematic for me. 8. There`s absolutely no Scorsese directing characteristic in this doc. Static camera, almost no music, non-existent visual stylization. I know he co-directed it but i was expecting to find a Scorsese-seal somewhere there. 9. And then there`s the scene at the end from Fahrenheit 451. One of my all time favorites. At that point i thought that this is something that Marty would think. I was expecting more things like this from Marty as i said above. 10. I have all ready watched at least 15 very good docs this year. So i can say this is a great year for docs. The 50 Year Argument is one of my favorites even though i didn`t get my Scorsese dose i was expecting.

One of the highlights for me was holding on to that final Joan Didion shot for those few extra seconds.

I just watched the ``Martin Scorsese Presents`` The Revenge Of The Green Dragons...A few thoughts...
The film is about Chinese gangs in Queens and especially the Green Dragons gang. There`s a presentation a la GONY of the Chinese gangs. Amusing.
The film is hyper-violent, stylized, fast-paced with lots of slo-mo and (bad) music. The story is unoriginal, there`s no character development and honestly its difficult to connect or empathize with the protagonists. There`s also some really soap-opera level of dialogue and performances. I would say the film is over the top and hyperbolic and generally mediocre.
Ray Liotta appears in a thankless role as a racist FBI agent. A failure in all levels.
Any attempt of the film to make a comment about ``The American Dream`` and immigration fails miserably.
Overall the film has nothing to add to the whole gangs genre. And for a film that starts with ``Martin Scorsese Presents`` i was expecting much much more.

There have been some news regarding the Cleopatra movie, that Angelina Jolie wants to make. Apparently, based on info from the leaked Sony emails, when Jolie met with Scorsese a while back it was for that movie. Scorsese also met with producer DeLuca and screenwriter Eric Roth.

It sounds terrible. And it is not as if Marty needs any more projects in development.

Whether or not this goes any further, it looks like Eric Roth started the script from scratch after his meeting with Scorsese. Perhaps they're attempting to turn it from "Cleopatra" to "Caesar and Cleopatra"/"Anthony and Cleopatra".
