A Marty-De Niro collaboration i didn`t see coming. www.thewrap.com/movies/article/martin-scorsese-named-executive-producer-malavita-76911Martin Scorsese Named Executive Producer of Mob Comedy 'Malavita'Martin Scorsese has been named an executive producer on EuropaCorp and Relativity Media's mob comedy "Malavita," the companies announced on Friday.
The Academy Award-winning filmmaker offered creative consultation to writer and director Luc Besson before and during production. Now that his role has been formalized, Scorsese will continue to do so throughout the post-production process.
Starring Robert De Niro, Michelle Pfeiffer, Tommy Lee Jones, Dianna Agron and John D'Leo, the adaptation of Tonino Benacquista's book "Badfellas" follows the Manzoni crime family's efforts to fit in after relocated to France under the witness protection program.
Scorsese shares executive-producing credit with Relativity Media president Tucker Tooley, while EuropaCorp's Virginie Besson-Silla and Relativity's Ryan Kavanaugh are producing.
"Malavita" hits theaters on Oct. 18 this year.

Miramax, Martin Scorsese Developing Gangs of New York TV Series
Scope of skein would expand beyond Empire State
Ten years after Gangs of New York hit theaters, director Martin Scorsese is teaming with Miramax to develop the project into a TV series.
The planned project would follow the story of the movie and draw on events surrounding organized gangs at the turn of the 20th century and shortly thereafter, not only in New York but in such cities as Chicago (which would arguably make it a de facto prequel to “Boardwalk Empire.”)
“This time and era of Americas history and heritage is rich with characters and stories that we could not fully explore in a two hour film,” Scorsese said in a statement. “A television series allows us the time and creative freedom to bring this colorful world, and all the implications it had and still does on our society, to life.”
Said Miramax chairman Richard Nanula: “No one better exemplifies what the new Miramax is and will be better than Martin Scorsese. His dedication to quality and the art of storytelling continues to excite everyone that works with him and watches his films and television programs. We could not think of a better partner for this project than the creator of the wonderful film on which it is based.”
“Gangs of New York” was released in December 2002 and grossed $77.8 million domestically and an additional $116 million worldwide. The film received 10 Oscar nominations, though it won none.variety.com/2013/tv/news/scorsese-miramax-developing-gangs-tv-series-1200330567/

Sad news... Roger Ebert has passed away, two days after announcing his cancer had returned.
I'm sure we'll hear from Scorsese soon, but regarding the documentary "Life itself" that Scorsese was exec producing, they wrote this on their twitter:

Thanks, nas. I think I remember we had seen a photo of Jesse McCartney on the set with Scorsese. Most sites seem to connect Scorsese's cameo with Catherine Scorsese's initial involvement in the film. But wasn't she going to direct?

Universal is talking to other directors to take on The Snowman, in case Scorsese is not going to make it next.

I watched two clips of this and decided it wasn't worth looking for the cameo. Anybody found where he is?

Interview: Luc Besson Talks Scorsese's Influence On 'The Familyblogs.indiewire.com/theplaylist/interview-the-family-director-luc-besson-talks-about-martin-scorseses-influence-a-fifth-element-follow-up-and-how-hes-never-gotten-paid-from-nikita-20130912Where did all these Scorsese references come from in "The Family"? It seems like the voiceover is riffing on "Casino" and there's obviously a "Goodfellas" gag.The book ["Malavita," on which the movie is based] and the film are really an homage to Martin Scorsese, for sure. I was very young when I saw "Taxi Driver" and "Mean Streets" and I am a huge fan of the master! That's why we called him at the beginning and said, "Would you like to be involved with us? Because it would mean a lot to us." He was kind enough to accept and it was already a lot of happiness for me. It's really a love letter to Scorsese. So if he had said no would you have still included that stuff? If he said he didn't like it, I would have never made the film.
