I`m wondering. Is Oscars their primary concern? The box-office? Or maybe both. As i see it this year`s Oscars field is crowded and so is the holiday`s releases. I can`t believe i`m saying that, but maybe the best choice (for them) is to release it sometime in 2014? I think (and hope) money is their primary concern. The Nov. 15 date was a very good one, but even if the film was ready today, it would be too late to release it then, as there are no TV spots playing, no second trailer (yet), etc. Dec. 25 (Christmas) and Nov. 25 (Thanksgiving) would not be as good. Both busier weeks, where a film about Wall Street might get ignored in favor of more season-appropriate movies. The Christmas weekend might bring a No.1 for WOWS. I know it doesn't really mean anything, but I'd like Scorsese to have another movie at No.1. So, if they don't care about oscars, then I'd pick Dec. 25. As for 2014... WOWS is not a genre film, so it could have trouble finding an audience outside of Fall/Holidays. Not to mention that they'd risk predisposing critics, who generally regard a delay as a bad sign of the film's quality.

The lastest from the rumor mill : Nov 25th release WillIf this rumor has any truth to it , I think, the Nov 25th will work well as counter programming to "Hunger Games: Catching Fire" . It will be welcome male /adult fare . Also, from what I see at BOM it doesn't have any other strong adult competition that weekend. Besides , be it fall/holiday or any time of year, we DiCaprio fans will be going to see his new film And from the reaction I've seen since this latest Scorsese/DiCaprio project was announced , I think that is true of most people.

Peanut my dear they r not talking about a Nov 25 release. They r talking about Marty finishing the editing till Nov 25 before he departs for Morocco. The goal is Christmas Day. Something tells me though that a 2014 release is more likely...will see...

NasNow really if the Peanut wasn't confused , things wouldn't be normal would they Oh , okay, so you take the article to say that "their goal is Nov 25th" is in reference to when they would have editing done right ? And then if that happens they would spend the next month promoting/marketing , right ?

Peanut...Right... Thanks Arnz for this. So now Wells tells us that a 3-hour version will actually be the shortest cut. I must say i haven`t read so many rumors-speculations-hearsays for a to be released film since....i don`t know...Eyes Wide Shut?...LOL

Maybe...Maybe not...Maybe fuck yourselves... Now that Bieber announced the release of his new doc (sic) ''Believe'' on Christmas, I believe (see what i did there) that Paramount will bail out and move to a 2014 release. I mean how can u compete with Biebs in the box office? (I`m actually semi-serious on that). Talking seriously now, Christmas day is too crowded. Personally i don`t care about the BO. I never did. But if i did i would release it another day. Before or after Christmas.

Christmas day is not too crowded. First of all Justin Bieber is not gonna put a dent into TWWOS' box office. The only question is whether there are enough screens, and with Jack Ryan moving out of that slot, there definitely should be. Especially because I am expecting SONY to keep American Hustle in limited release for longer, if TWOWW opens on Christmas. AH would suffer more from the competition from TWOWW than the other way around.

Bieber's film may not take anyone away from WOWS potential audience, but it will not amuse me to see it be No. 1 over a Scorsese film. It would be tempting to move the film away from Christmas day, to either get a head start on the others, or wait until Dec. 27 to enjoy a weekend of full force. But no studio would want to miss Dec. 25-26... so it's stuck there.
The only film that could compete for the same audience would be Mitty, unless it is promoted more as a family/fantasy film.
sikri, how many theaters do you expect the film to get for a Christmas opening? I don't see an R-rated film getting over 3000.

The only Christmas box office competition I see for TWOWS is Anchorman 2 or The Hobbit: Dragon Edition. I say that because last year's long runtime, un-Christmasy, Leonardo DiCaprio film with a notable director- Django Unchained, came in at number 2 after The Hobbit: Part One. Anchorman 2 will probably have the same kind of hype as Hobbit.
Honestly, as much as I love Scorsese, I don't associate him with box office numbers and Oscar wins. Goodfellas lost and I thought Hugo technically bombed? I hope any delays are strictly due to editing issues and not because of (ultimately) bullshit competitions.
(Ok the world can have it's silly pop stars, but if Bieber beats out Scorsese then you motherfucking kids can get the fuck off my lawn forever and Hollywood deserves to implode on its-motherfucking-self. /pesci-mode)

Well I hope not, as I would like to see it as soon as possible and do hope that it can be an Oscar contender. I'm never sure about Roger Friedman. On one hand he is very gossipy, on the other hand he has broken some major stories over the years.
