Pretty much what I expected. It was either that or Wednesday before Thanksgiving. Even with this competitors it has a good slot. It is one week before The Hunger Games: Catching Fire opens and could take advantage of Thanksgiving-weekend two weeks later. It also have holdover competition from Thor: The Dark World, but TWOWW is skewing older of course.
The competition for the weekend doesn't look too heavy. Stallone non-fanchise movies usually flops. The Fifth Estate looks like a hard sell to the general audience. WikiLeaks is not Facebook, and it is obviously the success of The Social Network they are banking on.
The strongest competition is The Counselor with a strong cast. But the screenplay has a dark tone, without the same Coen-humor as No Country For Old Men. That could limit its appeal.

Thanks, morrie. I won't mark it down, but if it sticks, it's a good date.

Same date as Bill Condon's The Fifth Estate, Ridley Scott's The Counselor, and the De Niro/Stallone boxing comedy Grudge Match.

BoxOffice.com just came out with a projection of $91 mil. for the opening weekend of Thor. WOWS comes out the following weekend, so it would probably not get close to the No. 1, since it would need to make over $40 mil for that to happen.

Paramount recently moved their other Fall film (Nebraska) to Nov. 15 and even though that one will be a limited release, it seemed odd.
Kris Tapley started a discussion earlier today about WOWS possibly being moved to another date.

Man I'm gonna be so disappointed if its release date turns out to be bumped. I guess this confirms WOWS won't really be an Oscar friendly film then.

I wouldn't panic just yet. Kris Tapley and his speculations have been wrong before.
