The actual release date for “The Wolf of Wall Street,” Scorsese’s look at the excesses of the financial markets from the perspective of an out-of-control stockbroker played by Leonardo DiCaprio, is now uncertain. Scorsese is working around the clock to trim what was reportedly a three-hours-plus cut of the film in hopes of getting it into theaters before year’s end.

“It is so outrageous,” songwriter-composer Robbie Robertson, who is working on the music with Scorsese and who saw an early cut, told TheWrap. “It is very long, and they’re working day and night trying to get it down.”

The film may still be finished in time for a December release (Scorsese delivered “Hugo” at the very last minute two years ago, and that was nominated for Best Picture), but a move to Christmas would conflict with Paramount’s scheduled release of “Jack Ryan: Shadow One,” which figures to be a more valuable commercial property, if less of an awards presence.

I suppose this is the first confirmation from someone involved with the film, that the current cut is a long one.
But I'm wondering... the script was a fast-paced one, that seemed that it would yield a 2-hour movie. Where did all the extra footage come from? Unless Scorsese liked and wants to keep all that they shot.

screening took place this past weekend in New York ??

I do know from pix I've seen that DiCaprio is in New York now

One possibility: Paramount could move "Wolf" into the Christmas Day slot currently occupied by the studio's action franchise reboot, "Jack Ryan: Shadow One." ("Wolf" would actually open Christmas Eve in order to make the one-week run necessary to qualify for Oscar consideration.) "Jack Ryan" would then be bumped to early 2014 to accommodate the shift.

I don't get this math. December 25th through December 31st is exactly one week. What's this Christmas Eve stuff?

I suppose they need seven full days. And if it were to open for noon screenings on Christmas day, then it would play for six and a half days.

^Scorsese's wearing that same belt buckle again! Anybody ever figure out that buckle's significance?

Just saw the trailer for Jack Ryan. The accompanying articles still claim that the movie comes out on Christmas, but the actual trailer doesn't include an actual date. Make of that what you will.

Did they change the rules or something? Both Django Unchained and Les Miserables were released on Christmas, weren't they? Both had Oscar nominations.

The email that Paramount sent to websites informing them of the new trailer/poster said "Coming Soon".

Exclusive: Now I am hearing that after much talk about a 2014 delay, Martin Scorsese– like Mary Tyler Moore–is gonna make it after all. Sources say that Scorsese and editor Thelma Schoonmaker are trying desperately to deliver a manageable length version of “The Wolf of Wall Street” for Christmas Day release.
The word: Their goal now is November 25th. After that, Scorsese will leave for the Marrakesh Film Festival. That will give the capable folks at Paramount one month to get marketing and promotion together.
If Scorsese makes it, this adds a new wrinkle into the competitive Oscar season. There are plenty of candidates for the 10 Best Picture slots and the five Best Actors. Not only that–Matthew McConnaughey will be eligible from three movies: Wolf, Dallas Buyers Club, and Mud. He’ll certainly get something.
Here are the realistic Best Picture contenders so far in no order: Gravity, The Butler, Blue Jasmine, August: Osage County, 12 Years a Slave, Inside Llewyn Davis, Nebraska, Fruitvale Station, Captain Phillips, The Monuments Men, Saving Mr. Banks, American Hustle, Mandela, All is Lost, Philomena.

I`m wondering. Is Oscars their primary concern? The box-office? Or maybe both.
As i see it this year`s Oscars field is crowded and so is the holiday`s releases.
I can`t believe i`m saying that, but maybe the best choice (for them) is to release it sometime in 2014?

Will i don`t know that. All i know is that Red Granite took that post and re-posted it in their Facebook and twitter.
So, i`m guessing it`s his official page...or maybe not...
