How’s the teaser? Intense. Like a gangster movie smashed with a Western in an fierce story about the glass between oil-hungry men and the Osage nation in Oklahoma. It begins with DiCaprio telling a Osage young woman, “You have nice color skin. What color do you think that is?”

“My color,” she answers.

And the movie sees DiCaprio and De Niro playing two schemers who would like to get their hands on the Osage wealth, even if it means blowing up, shooting or otherwise violently disposing of people.

“I do love that money sir,” DiCaprio tells De Niro in the trailer. “This wealth should come to us,” De Niro later advises.

The trailer also depicts DiCaprio trying to seduce Gladstone, presumably to gain the rights to the oil she controls. But Plemons, playing an upright lawman, may have other ideas. He warns DiCaprio’s shadowy operator that he wants to find out who is responsible for all the carnage.

The teaser shows Ernest Burkhart having an awkward conversation with his Osage wife Mollie (played by Leo DiCaprio and Lily Gladstone) about her color. The couple lives on the Osage reservation in Oklahoma, which was believed to be the worst land possible until the Osage people discovered that they were sitting on oil reserves.

But as the tycoon William Hale (Robert De Niro) declares, “This wealth should belong to us. Their time is over.”

Thus begins a war over the Osage homeland as a sea of Hale’s greedy men arrive and are willing to murder anyone to get control of the oil. As Mollie swears to spill blood in return for all of the suffering inflicted on her and her people, Ernest is left caught in the middle as he gets a visit from Tom White (Jesse Plemons), a federal agent from the newly created FBI sent to investigate the murders. Not that this fazes William in any way

“You expect America is going to come and make this all go away?” William tells Ernest. “You know they don’t do that anymore.”

The trailer showed DiCaprio hunting for “Black Gold,” marrying Gladstone, and confronting Plemons.

“I was sent down from Washington D.C. to see about these murders,” Plemons says to DiCaprio’s character. “See what about it,” he replies. “See who’s doing it.”

Exclusive Footage Description: Martin Scorsese himself revealed the first teaser for Killers of the Flower Moon exclusively at CinemaCon 2023. The footage fully teases the main conflict between the Osage people and the white settlers in Osage County in 1920s Oklahoma. Leonardo DiCaprio’s character named Ernest Burkhart is very in love with his wife Mollie, played by Lily Gladstone. When more and more white people settle in the town, grisly murders take place and they’re all of the natives. Robert De Niro as William Hale, who’s a sort of mentor to Leo, advises Ernest that they need to make a new for themselves by obtaining the land’s bounties of oil.

When entering this business filled with blood and oil, Ernest bits off more than he can chew. We see a montage of gruesome murders taking place between the white invaders and Osage people, both sides claiming big numbers of bodies back and forth. Corpses are being buried in oil pits and people are being assassinated in broad daylight. The bond between Ernest and Mollie is then tested, as the loving couple questions their loyalty to their opposing people… and who they really trust in this oil war Ernest is then surprised by the arrival of a city detective, played by Jesse Plemons, who comes knocking on his door for answers. He’s here to solve who’s behind this series of murders. Brendan Fraser’s character briefly makes an appearance in the footage.

Based on the trailer, which finally animates that singluar still we’ve been stuck with for the last 500 years, the movie is grand in scope, with the same propulsive Scorsese energy from Wolf Of Wall Street. Killers Of The Flower Moon recreates turn of the century Oklahoma and blends the oily politics of the period with a murder mystery that led to the formation of the F.B.I. Frankly, it’s just nice to see something other than DiCaprio and Lily Gladstone doing something other than staring straight at the ceiling.

The teaser shown at CinemaCon begins with Leonardo DiCaprio's Ernest Burkhart and Lily Gladstone's Mollie Kyle, a wealthy member of the Osage Nation, inside a dark and gloomy cabin in the rain. "You've got nice-colored skin," he creepily informs his future wife. The premise of the film follows the indigenous Osage people who were resettled on the worst possible land available ... until they discovered precious oil reserves within their territory, boosting them to riches and status practically overnight. That obviously doesn't sit well with white people such as Robert De Niro's rancher William Hale, the brutal uncle to DiCaprio's Ernest.

As the scheming pair talk about how they believe the riches should be going to them instead, they enact their plan to marry into the Osage Nation, surreptitiously steal legal claim to their wealth, and even go so far as to kill off those in their way. After some disturbing shots showing a man shot in the back of the head at night, we hear Mollie darkly intone, "I want to kill these white men who killed my family." 

The murders soon grab the attention of Jesse Plemons' Tom White, a former Texas Ranger sent by the FBI to investigate.

The footage culminates in an explosive end, featuring a house blown up and Ernest seemingly in a daze at the violence surrounding him. By the end, we glimpse the uncle and nephew fully at odds with one another as Hale has Ernest tied up to a chair in an empty room. "You expecting a miracle? You know they don't happen anymore," he growls at his nephew. The imagery appears to tease a full-blown Western, with Scorsese on his brand of epic storytelling.
