The Academy gave an Oscar to Mr. Quaalude himself: Roman Polanski. I bet Hope Holiday didn't vote for Polanski.

Well, despite the Golden Globe win, I've lost hope that DiCaprio is getting an Oscar nomination tomorrow. All the "experts" are predicting Redford or Bale over him, including "Entertainment Weekly" which is apparently polling voters. It makes me both angry and sad because this is such a great performance and I think Leo really wants it this time.

And Steve Pond of The Wrap has Leo in and Marty out. So what. It doesn`t mean anything. They are not experts. They don`t know anything more than us. So Piglet relax. In 19 hours will know. Lay on your back. Make a coffee and enjoy. That`s what i`m gonna do. (3:30 pm for me). Everything will be over really really quick. And whatever happens soon we`ll forget about it. The film on the other hand will stay with us forever...

I agree - getting riled up about predictions is pointless. And really? EW is polling the voters? Is that even ethical?
Sure, it would be great if Leo, Scorsese, WOWS got nominated since it's always good to get recognition for your work even if it's by Academy members and who knows what each person votes are based on?
For Leo specifically, even if he doesn't get nominated, I think he'll come out ahead in the future because it's good to be the "underdog" as much as he can be one at this point in his career, and I have no doubt he is going to have another worthy performance(s) in the future.

Not a nomination for Thelma though, but besides that it's great.

Two acting noms is better than I had dared hope for. No one had really seen Jonah Hill coming really, he was not nominated by any of the precursors. Marty and Terry was expected. BAFTA, DGA and WGA had already shown that they were pretty secure. Thelma had the precursors so that's a surprise that she isn't included, but getting Jonah instead more than makes up for that. There is every reason to celebrate.

Congrats to all! Good showing for Wolf. 5 nominations like The Departed (but with Actor instead of Editing). It couldn't have gotten many more with the type of film it is.
