That's not too high given DiCaprio's starpower and I'm kinda worried how this will do box office wise but I guess it's not too surprising? Given how racy and all the content will be in this.

What we can hope now is that it gets the big screens at the multiplexes. BoxOffice.com currently has the film making $25M for the weekend (not the five days).

I guess Paramount thought that there wouldn't be much point of giving it to many theaters in the bible belt. I don't expect it to play anywhere in Utah outside of Salt Lake City or anywhere in Oklahoma except for Oklahoma City and Tulsa.

So do you guys have any predictions for how this will do at the box office?

I saw American Hustle tonight (which was quite good) in theater 9, which holds half as many people as theater 2 which is where TWOWS will open. Since so many have weighed in on its Scorseseness, I will too. It's more of a second generation Goodfellas homage in that it seemed more inspired by Boogie Nights, which itself was obviously inspired by Goodfellas. American Hustle owes more of its sentimentality to Boogie Nights. As heart-on-its-sleeviness as the latter film was, AH is almost borderline treacly (heart pills, really?). You could play an AH drinking game by taking a shot whenever someone cries or their eyes well up, which is often. I've seen raves for Bale, Lawrence, and Adams, but I think Cooper gave the film's best performance. Renner was excellent, too. And when the fuck did Elizabeth Rohm from Law & Order become such a good character actress?

So do you guys have any predictions for how this will do at the box office? I think it'll have legs well into January. Adding screens will help. $75M by January 2nd? Don't quote me on that. Unless it turns out to be true, then you can quote me. That would put it in Django and Les Mis territory, so let's be conservative and say $60M-$75M.

Thanks. But you don't think its racy content and despicable characters may be a turn off to audiences? Plus it doesn't help American Hustle has kind of stolen the spotlight. I'm thinking young males will be the target audience for this so maybe they won't mind but I just hope this does well given its insane budget and the fact its 3 hour length time will give it less showtimes.

That's why I just shaved off $15M.

BTW, isn't TWOWS's budget just about average as opposed to "insane?"

Lol I overexaggerated, but it was 100 million last time I checked and when I was on IMDB there quite a few people complaining why was the budget so expensive. But for some reason Wikipedia now says the budget was 90 million so who knows..

So do you guys have any predictions for how this will do at the box office? With 3000 theaters, I was expecting it to get about $52M for 5 days. But now, with fewer screens (and not knowing if those screens will be shared with other films), it'll be fine if it made around $15M for Wed-Thu and another $23M for the weekend, provided that word of mouth is comparable to the reactions we have heard so far from advanced screenings. Here's what the studio is allowing:
